ZORAM MEGA FOOD PARK- MIZORAM




Zoram Mega Food Park is an integrated project which provides infrastructure and services for food processing across the value chain to maximize value addition and minimize wastage. 

On July 20, 2020, the Union Minister of Food Processing Industries in the Government of India, Smt Harsimrat Kaur Badal, inaugurated the Zoram Mega Food Park Ltd at Kolasib in Mizoram. It is the first of its kind in Mizoram and aims at nurturing a sustainable food processing industry in the north-eastern state. 




OBJECTIVES:

  • The project aims to ensure remunerative prices to the farmers and value for money for the consumers by providing requisite channels for forwarding linkages so as to minimize the length of the supply chain, eliminate middlemen and reduce risk. 
  • The Zoram MFP, Mizoram also aims to stimulate direct and indirect income generation in the food processing and its ancillary sectors in the state. 
  • It is also a platform for establishment and growth for entrepreneurs in the Food Processing sector in Mizoram

ABOUT:

  • Zoram Mega Food Park Pvt Ltd is a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) promoted by Mizo entrepreneurs to establish a food Park at Khamrang under the Mega Food Parks Scheme (MFPS) of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), Government of India
  • The Food Park is located in Khamrang village in Kolasib District, Mizoram
  • It is spread over 55 Acres of land.
  • The MFP is built at a cost of Rs 75 crore
  • It is expected to directly benefit over 25,000 farmers and will provide employment opportunities to over 5,000 people in the region
  • The project has been made operational and is built in line with the Prime Minister’s Atmanirbhar Bharat Campaign.
  • It is located near National Highway 54 and will help in overcoming the transportation constraints and is expected to become a major milestone for the storage and processing of a high variety of foods, spices, fruits and vegetables grown in the region.
  • The project is expected to benefit people not just from Mizoram but also the people residing in adjoining districts of Assam.
